The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ruled in favour of the players involved in the alleged match-fixing game between AshantiGold and Inter Allies two seasons ago.
It has therefore overturned all punishments imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), on the players involved.
The GFA’s Disciplinary Committee sanctioned 21 players of AshantiGold and Inter Allies for their alleged involvement in manipulating the results of a 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Matchday 34 encounter between the two which ended 7-0 in favour of AshantiGold.
Later, Inter Allies player Hashmin Musah claimed in a post match interview that he deliberately scored two own goals to foil the match-fixing plot.
The GFA DC, handed out various degrees of punishment to the players involved after a hearing.
Following this decision, the affected players backed by the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) appealed to CAS through the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) to challenge the sanctions.
After several months of deliberation, CAS has now announced its decision, annulling all the sanctions imposed on the players and awarding them damages.
CAS has ordered the GFA to pay 6,300 Swiss Francs for distribution to the players, thus 300 Swiss Francs each for their ‘legal fees and other expenses incurred in connection with these arbitration proceedings.’
The GFA will also pay 3,000 Swiss Francs to player Richmond Lamptey who filed a separate case as ‘contribution towards his legal fees and other expenses incurred in connection with these arbitration proceedings.’
