National long jump queen Deborah Acquah, will be Ghana’s first participant at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
The women’s long jump event, starts on Saturday in the Hungarian capital, with Ghana hoping to get a first medal at the championship.
Acquah, won bronze at the last Commonwealth Games, and she will look to improve on this feat at this year’s World Athletics Championships.
She is set to compete in the long jump qualification Group B alongside Jasmine Moore of the United States and Jamaica’s Ackelia Smith at 10.25 local time on Saturday.
The automatic qualifying mark to the final of the lung jump is 6.80m, and Acquah, can also make it to the final by qualifying as one of the best first 12 finishers to emerge from the first round.
The 19th World Athletics Championships, is being held at the National Athletics Centre, Budapest, Hungary, with Ghana represented by six athletes who will compete in the women’s long jump, men’s 200m and the men’s 4x100m events.
The competition is set to end on Sunday, August 27 in the Hungarian capital.
