In a deeply rooted tradition that carries profound significance, Karela United embarked on a momentous visit to the revered chiefs of Tamale. This symbolic gesture not only served to announce their presence but also signaled the dawn of a new chapter for the football club.
Karela United, now under the ownership of former Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, recently found themselves relocating to the Northern regional capital. This transition became necessary as their original home venue, The Kowsby Memorial Park in Enyinasi, failed to meet the stringent requirements for hosting premier league games.
Under the able guidance of their coach, former RTU gaffer, and Director of Sports at the University For Development Studies, Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, the team initiated their preseason preparations in Tamale. They have now officially secured the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium as their new home ground.
In keeping with the rich tradition of respect and courtesy, the management, technical team, and players of Karela United paid visits to seven distinguished chiefs in Tamale. These revered figures included the Chogu Naa, Sagnarigu Naa, Lamashei Naa, Banvim Naa, Dakpema Naa, Gukpe Naa, Jong Naa (Nyohin Dana), and the custodian of Tamale land, Nyab Buglana.
The chiefs graciously received Karela United and extended their warmest welcome to the team. They pledged their unwavering support, and in a spirit of camaraderie, they shared invaluable advice. They encouraged the players to emulate the success of their owner, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, a prominent figure in the North. The chiefs firmly believed that a winning streak on the pitch would naturally attract the enthusiastic support of the people of Tamale and its surrounding areas.
With the blessings and support of the Tamale chiefs, Karela United is set to travel to Kumasi with renewed determination as they prepare to face Kotoko on Sunday. This follows their recent victory against Berekum Chelsea, marking a promising start to their season.
The symbolic visit to the chiefs not only strengthens the bond between the team and the local community but also symbolizes the unity and shared aspirations that football can bring to a region.
