Egyptian club Future FC has incurred the wrath of FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber for their improper termination of the contract of Ghanaian striker Diawisie Taylor. Taylor had inked a reported three-year deal with the club in 2021 but faced difficulties adapting to his new surroundings in North Africa, prompting the club to prematurely terminate his contract after just one year.
As a consequence of this wrongful contract termination, FIFA has mandated that Future FC pay Taylor a sum of USD $900,000 within 45 days. Failure to comply with this directive could lead to the club’s suspension from player registration for three transfer windows. This substantial fine underscores the seriousness of the club’s actions in releasing Taylor prematurely.
During his stint in Egypt, Taylor also went on loan to Sudanese side Al Merriekh. However, his performances during this period failed to make a significant impact.
It’s worth noting that despite his challenges abroad, Taylor had previously achieved success in the Ghanaian top-flight league. He was the top scorer for the 2020/2021 campaign, impressively netting 18 goals in 31 appearances while playing for Karela.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to contract agreements in professional football and the consequences that can be imposed by FIFA when clubs fail to do so.
