Ghanaian international forward Joseph Paintsil showcased his scoring prowess for KRC Genk in a captivating match against KVC Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday. Despite Paintsil’s goal, Genk was held to a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Cegeka Arena.
The game took a dramatic turn as Genk was reduced to ten men in the first half when Ghanaian youngster Christopher Bonsu Baah received a straight red card. However, Genk took the lead early on when Colombia defender Daniel Munoz found the back of the net in the 10th minute.
Westerlo’s teenage forward, Lucas Stassin, swiftly responded, leveling the score just nine minutes later. Congolese midfielder Joris Kayembe then restored the lead for the home team right on the stroke of halftime.
In the early stages of the second half, Joseph Paintsil made his mark by connecting with a pass from Kayembe to increase Genk’s advantage. However, Stassin was not done yet, as he netted another goal in the 60th minute to reduce the deficit for Westerlo.
The match continued to deliver excitement until the very end when Westerlo’s substitute, Tuur Rommens, scored the equalizing goal with just one minute remaining on the clock.
Joseph Paintsil’s goal marked his second of the season, and he has also provided three assists in his nine appearances for Genk in the Belgian top-flight this season. Despite the draw, his performance continues to be a valuable asset for the team as they navigate through the Belgian Pro League.
