In a surprising turn of events, Dr. Tony Aubynn, a board member of Medeama SC, has lost his seat on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council in the elections held on Thursday, October 5, 2023. The highly respected football administrator had been seeking to retain his position but faced an unexpected setback, receiving just seven votes.
This unexpected turn of events resulted in the replacement of Dr. Aubynn by James Kwesi Appiah, the technical director of Asante Kotoko. The GFA’s elective congress, held in Tamale, saw James Kwesi Appiah secure a spot on the Executive Council.
Meanwhile, other notable figures, including Frederick Acheampong, Randy Abbey, and Oduro Sarfo, successfully retained their seats on the Executive Council. However, Kingsley Osei Bonsu and Elloeny Amande found themselves in a tie, both receiving nine votes. As a result, they will engage in another round of contest to determine the final premier league representative on the Executive Council.
The election results reflect the dynamic nature of football governance in Ghana, with unexpected outcomes shaping the leadership of the sport. James Kwesi Appiah’s election to the Executive Council brings his wealth of experience and expertise to the forefront, adding a new dimension to the leadership of the association.
