Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s prominent football clubs, is facing a challenging season in the Ghana Premier League, and their head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has identified a critical issue plaguing the team – goal-scoring.
Despite boasting talented attackers like Steven Mukwala Dese, Kalo Quattara, Georges Mfegue, and others, Asante Kotoko has struggled to find the back of the net consistently this season. Coach Ogum highlighted this concern during a recent press conference, where he stated that while his team creates ample scoring opportunities, the inability to convert those chances into goals has been a major setback.
“Our problem is goal-scoring, and that’s a fact. We even play better than our opponents, create chances, but at the end of the day, putting the ball in the net has been the problem,” Ogum emphasized.
The coach remains optimistic that addressing this goal-scoring challenge is the key to improving Asante Kotoko’s performance. He believes that once this issue is resolved, the team will start achieving the desired results.
As of now, Asante Kotoko has managed only two victories this season, with two losses and five draws in their nine matches. The club currently sits in the 14th position on the league table. Their recent 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC at home, with Abdul Aziz Issah scoring a remarkable free-kick, further exacerbated their situation. This defeat led to dissatisfaction among Asante Kotoko fans, who expressed their disappointment by booing the players and club officials.
Asante Kotoko’s next match will be against FC Samartex at the challenging Nsenkyire Sports Complex in Samreboi this weekend. It remains to be seen whether the team can overcome their goal-scoring woes and turn their season around.
