Following a disheartening 3-0 loss to Young Africans SC in the CAF Champions League, Augustine Evans Adotey bid farewell to his position as head coach of Medeama SC. The Ghanaian champions suffered a crushing defeat on matchday four at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, leading to a significant change within the club.
Young Africans seized control of the game, led by Ivorian midfielder Paçome Zouzoua, who replicated his previous standout performance against Medeama by netting a crucial goal.
Despite a chance for Medeama to turn the tide with an early second-half penalty, striker Jonathan Sowah faltered from the spot, allowing Young Africans to capitalize and extend their lead with goals from Zambian forward Kennedy Musonda and Mudathir Yahya.
The match ended on a sour note for Medeama as Sowah received a second yellow card in unnecessary fashion just before full-time.
This substantial defeat has dimmed Medeama’s prospects of advancing from Group D in the tournament, leading to the decision to relieve Adotey of his coaching duties. Adotey, an experienced tactician, will revert to his former role as the club’s technical director, opening the door for a new coach to guide the team for the remainder of the season.
The transition marks the end of an era for Adotey, signaling Medeama’s quest for a fresh direction to salvage their continental campaign and strive for better outcomes in the future.
