In an exclusive interview with Professor Kuntu Blankson on Westgold Radio 106.3 in Takoradi, Mr. John Ansah, the Vice Chairman of GHALCA, shed light on the rationale behind choosing Kumasi Asante Kotoko and ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire for this year’s President’s Cup.
Ansah disclosed that initially, the plan was to feature Medeama SC, the Ghanaian champions, alongside ASEC, the champions of Cote d’Ivoire. However, due to Medeama’s busy schedule in the CAF Champions League, they had to reconsider.
With this adjustment, the choice of Kumasi Asante Kotoko was not originally part of the plan. However, considering the circumstances and the fact that the match will be held in Kumasi, they opted for Kotoko. This decision was also influenced by the impending presence of His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana, and Alassane Ouattara, the President of Cote d’Ivoire, who will be the guest of honor.
Ansah emphasized that they will engage Hearts of Oak in a meeting to provide clarity on the situation.
Additionally, he revealed that this year’s President’s Cup will be broadcasted on DSTV, and entry to the stadium will be free, welcoming all football enthusiasts to witness the spectacle.
