Hearts of Oak ushered in a new era under the leadership of coach Aboubakar Ouattara with a commanding 3-0 triumph over Real Tamale United (RTU) at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
The Phobians exacted revenge on their visitors, whom they had previously failed to defeat in their last three encounters. Hamzah Issah emerged as the star of the match, scoring a brace in the first half. He opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a skillful chest control and a volley that found the back of the net. Issah then completed his brace in the 40th minute with a well-executed header, courtesy of a precise cross from Salifu Ibrahim.
Enock Asubonteng extended Hearts of Oak’s lead with a goal in the 70th minute, sealing the game for the home team. Despite having multiple chances, the Phobians were wasteful in front of goal, but their comprehensive victory solidified their position in 9th place on the league standings with 24 points.
On the other hand, RTU’s loss sees them plummet to the bottom of the standings with 17 points. Their next challenge will be against Bofoakwa Tano, while Hearts of Oak will be away to Nsoatreman in their upcoming fixture.
The impressive start under Ouattara’s guidance showcases Hearts of Oak’s potential for a resurgence, while RTU will be eager to regroup and bounce back as they strive to move out of the relegation zone.
