In a display of sheer dominance, Heart of Lions showcased their prowess by thrashing second-placed Nations FC at the Kpando Stadium on Sunday, marking their best performance of the Ghana Premier League season.
Lions left no room for doubt as they secured an emphatic 3-0 victory over Nations, igniting their battle against relegation. This impressive win serves as a significant morale boost for Bashir Hayford’s side as they navigate through the remainder of the season.
Hayford’s strategic changes to the squad, following their narrow loss to Aduana Stars in the previous round, proved instrumental in Lions’ triumph. Similarly, Kassim Mingle Ocansey’s alterations to the Nations team couldn’t stem the tide of Lions’ onslaught.
The Kpando-based team wasted no time in asserting their dominance, with midfielder Mahmoud Mohaison breaking the deadlock just ten minutes into the game. Teenage sensation Akwasi Bentil Duah doubled Lions’ advantage in the 65th minute with a clinical finish from close range.
As if sealing their victory with a stamp of authority, substitute Nana Kwame Oppong sealed the deal in stoppage time, capitalizing on a well-coordinated team effort.
Despite the resounding victory, Lions maintain their 15th position on the league standings, now just three points away from safety. Meanwhile, Nations FC remains unfazed by the defeat, comfortably holding onto their second-place spot, trailing league leaders FC Samartex 1996 by five points.
