Great Olympics may have found a lifeline in their fight against relegation after defeating Berekum Chelsea 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Isaac Mensah and Stephen Amankona each scored twice for their respective teams, but it was the hosts who claimed all three points with a decisive third goal.
Mensah opened the scoring for Great Olympics in the 27th minute, giving his team a halftime lead. After the break, Amankona equalized for Berekum Chelsea in the 62nd minute, but the Dade Boys quickly restored their lead four minutes later with Mensah’s second goal.
The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute, which Amankona converted to level the score again. However, Great Olympics managed to find the winner shortly afterward to seal the victory.
Despite the win, Great Olympics remain in the relegation zone, sitting 16th with 36 points. They do, however, have a game in hand. Berekum Chelsea, now in 8th position with 44 points, will face Real Tamale United next, while Great Olympics will travel to Kumasi to face Asante Kotoko in their upcoming match.
