Embattled Real Tamale United (RTU) may face additional sanctions after failing to appear for their final Ghana Premier League game against Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The already relegated team did not show up for the match, and their official position on the matter has not been stated. Great Olympics, who are battling relegation themselves, could be awarded three points due to RTU’s forfeiture. However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would only grant these points after completing an investigation into the incident.
This latest issue adds to RTU’s mounting legal troubles. The club has already been charged by the GFA Disciplinary Committee for fielding unregistered players in a midweek game against Dreams FC. RTU admitted to the offense after their regular players refused to play due to six months of unpaid salaries, forcing the management to field Division Two players who were not registered.
It seems RTU were unable to persuade their registered players to travel to Accra for the match against Great Olympics, resulting in the forfeiture. Real Tamale United are now at risk of facing severe sanctions as their legal and administrative woes continue to deepen.
