The 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 colts championship kicks off on Thursday at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence, Prampram.
Ten teams from the football regions of Ghana will take part in this tournament which is aimed at unearthing more talents for the country.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in partnership with the KGL Foundation, successfully launched the Fourth edition of this tourney on Wednesday July 24, 2024 in Accra.
It came off at the Conference Room of the GFA with officials of the GFA and sponsors, KGL Foundation in attendance.
The KGL Foundation, has played a lead role in youth football development over the past four years, and are bent on doing more in harnessing more talents for Ghana.
Programmes Manager of the KGL Foundation, Nii Sarpei, expressed his delight at the immense progress made since his outfit decided to partner the GFA in youth football development.
“We, at the KGL Foundation, believe that laying the groundwork for the younger generations to enjoy football is the way to go. We look forward to a successful tournament Nii Sarpei concluded.
The KGL Under-17 Colts Championship was conceived as a platform to promote fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship among young players whilst providing a competitive environment for players to showcase and improve on their skills, fostering regional unity and camaraderie among different regions.
Starting on Thursday, the championship is expected to end on August 8, 2024.
In keeping with the policy of the GFA to continuously encourage young talent, the Championships will be officiated by young referees selected from the GFA’s flagship “Catch Them Young” Refereeing policy.
This initiative has nurtured hundreds of young, ambitious referees who have officiated at the second-tier level of Ghana football.
Each participating team will receive fifty footballs, two sets of cones, two sets of bibs, and two sets of match jerseys by kind courtesy KGL Foundation.
The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, and the 10 Regional Football Associations will select the best U17 players from their Colts competitions to represent their regions in this year’s edition.
The KGL Foundation in association with the GFA, announced a landmark sponsorship in 2021 valued at One million United States dollars covering a period of five (5) years.
