Los Angeles Galaxy forward Joseph Paintsil has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger in Morocco due to passport issues.
Paintsil was unable to travel with the Black Stars to Morocco and will miss the upcoming match. The forward, who is based in the US, has remained in Accra to resolve his passport situation before returning to California for Major League Soccer duties.
“Twenty-three players made the trip after Joseph Paintsil pulled out due to passport issues. The Los Angeles Galaxy forward has been left in Accra to sort out his passport issues before returning to the United States to join his club,” the Ghana Football Association confirmed.
Paintsil made a late appearance in Ghana’s defeat to Angola in Kumasi last Thursday, marking his first game for the Black Stars since the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Ghana will now aim to bounce back from that loss when they take on Niger at the RS Berkane Stadium on Monday.
