Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, one of Ghana’s most prestigious football teams, is set to temporarily relocate to Obuasi, home of Ashanti Gold SC. The move comes in response to the ongoing renovations at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the club’s traditional home ground. While construction is underway, the club’s management has made arrangements for both the playing body and the technical team to operate from Obuasi.
The team will reside at the luxurious Sam Jonas Estate, providing the players and staff with comfortable living conditions during their stay. The estate is known for its serene environment, which will likely help the team focus on preparations for upcoming matches.
Training sessions will be held at the well-maintained Ofori Park, which offers excellent facilities for football training. The technical team, led by head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, will have the necessary resources to keep the squad in peak condition while away from their home base.
Asante Kotoko’s move is temporary, with the club planning to return to Kumasi as soon as renovations at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium are completed. The stadium upgrade is expected to enhance the team’s facilities, improving both the playing surface and the fan experience. Once renovations are done, Kotoko will resume its home games at Baba Yara, which has long been a fortress for the club.
The relocation is part of Kotoko’s broader strategy to ensure minimal disruption during the renovation period, allowing the team to maintain its high standards and competitive edge. Fans can look forward to a stronger Asante Kotoko when the team eventually returns to its spiritual home in Kumasi.
