In a recent interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo expressed his concerns regarding the poor treatment of former players at the club. Polo, a key figure in Hearts of Oak’s history, lamented the lack of opportunities for ex-players within the club’s structure and attributed this to their ongoing struggles.
“Poor treatment of players is affecting Hearts of Oak. I have been denied several opportunities by the club and I think bad treatment of players has contributed to their eir recent struggles. Honestly, they lack God’s blessings,” Polo stated.
Comparing Hearts of Oak to their archrivals, Asante Kotoko, Polo highlighted the stark difference in how the two clubs treat their former players. He praised Asante Kotoko for being more accommodating and offering better opportunities to their legends, a practice that he believes has benefited the club.
“Asante Kotoko are better off in giving their legends opportunities. In Europe, clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, and others always include their legends, and it’s high time they learn from them,” he added.
Polo’s remarks have sparked conversations among fans, with many questioning whether Hearts of Oak should do more to engage with their ex-players and leverage their experience to help the club return to its former glory.
