The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a formal notice to James Kwesi Appiah, highlighting a potential conflict of interest due to his dual roles as a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council and head coach of Sudan’s national football team. With Ghana set to face Sudan in the AFCON qualifiers on October 11 and 14, 2024, CAF emphasized that holding both positions could compromise the integrity and fairness of the matches.
In a letter dated 6th October 2024 and copied to the Ghana Football Association and Sudan Football Association, CAF pointed out that this situation is in violation of the CAF Statutes and FIFA Code of Ethics. They urged Appiah to temporarily step down from one of his roles before the qualifiers. CAF has requested written confirmation of the steps taken by Tuesday, 8th October 2024, or the matter may be referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for further action.
