George Baldock, a Greek international footballer and former Sheffield United right-back, was found dead at his home in Glyfada, a suburb of Athens, on the evening of October 9, 2024. The 31-year-old was discovered at the bottom of his swimming pool.
Though no prior health issues were known, a bottle of alcohol was reportedly found nearby.
His wife, who was abroad, had raised concerns after being unable to contact him, leading to the discovery. Police are investigating the circumstances of his death.
Baldock, originally from Buckingham, England, earned Greek citizenship through his grandmother and represented Greece internationally, accumulating 12 caps.
After seven seasons with Sheffield United, where he played over 200 league matches, Baldock joined Panathinaikos in 2024.
He was not part of the current Greek squad due to injury.
