Sudan national team coach, Kwesi Appiah, has pledged his willingness to support the Black Stars in their quest to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Appiah’s remarks come in the wake of the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a setback that has left fans and stakeholders concerned about the team’s future.
Ghana’s performance in the AFCON qualifiers saw the four-time African champions finish bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches, recording three defeats and three draws. This marks the first time in two decades that the Black Stars will not participate in the tournament, set to be hosted in Morocco next year.
Despite this disappointment, Appiah expressed optimism about the team’s potential during an interview with Asempa FM. He emphasized his readiness to contribute towards Ghana’s World Cup ambitions.
“If you look at the current players, they are good, so with any form of assistance, I will be there to support and ensure the team qualifies because, at the end of the day, it is about Ghana and not anybody,” Appiah stated.
The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, tied with Comoros on nine points after four matches. They will face Chad and Madagascar in their next fixtures, scheduled for March 2025.
Meanwhile, Kwesi Appiah continues to excel with the Sudan national team, having guided the Falcons of Jediane to the top of Group B with 10 points after four matches.
