Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed disappointment after his side failed to capitalize on clear goal-scoring opportunities in their recent clash with Medeama SC. The match, played at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa, ended in a stalemate, leaving the Porcupine Warriors with just a point from the encounter.
In his post-match interview, Ogum lamented his team’s inability to convert chances into goals, a factor he believes cost them a crucial victory.
“Looking at the obvious goal-scoring opportunities we had, we should have won the game,” Ogum said. “We created enough chances to secure the three points, but unfortunately, our finishing let us down. It’s frustrating because the team played well overall.”
The game saw Asante Kotoko dominate possession for significant stretches, with strikers failing to put the ball past the Medeama goalkeeper on several occasions. A combination of poor finishing and stellar goalkeeping denied Kotoko the breakthrough.
Ogum, however, acknowledged Medeama’s defensive resilience, crediting their backline for making things difficult for his side. “Medeama are a strong team, and they defended well. But as a team of Kotoko’s stature, we should be taking these chances,” he added.
The result leaves Asante Kotoko in a precarious position as they aim to maintain their challenge for the Ghana Premier League title. With mounting pressure from fans and management, Ogum emphasized the need for his players to improve their composure in front of goal.
“As we move forward, we’ll work harder in training to sharpen our finishing. We can’t afford to keep dropping points like this. Every game counts in this league, and we need to be clinical,” Ogum stated.
The Porcupine Warriors are set to face their next opponent in a home fixture, where fans will expect a much-needed win. Ogum remains optimistic about the team’s prospects, urging supporters to stay patient and continue backing the players.
“We know the expectations of our fans. We will keep working hard to deliver results. The team is determined to bounce back stronger,” Ogum concluded.
Asante Kotoko’s next match could prove pivotal in their quest for league glory, and all eyes will be on the team to see if they can translate their performance into goals and victories.
