The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the violent disturbances that occured in last Sunday’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) game at Nsoatre between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.
Those unfortunate events, led to the death of popular Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong also known as Nana Pooley after he was stabbed.
Those arrested are Ignatius Baffour Awuah, owner of Nsoatreman FC, Agyemang Duah Owusu Joseph Kyeremeh, a statement from the Ghana Police Service said.
It further stated that all three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting in investigations.
The Police statement added that “a search conducted in the room of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.”
According to the Police statement, the Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has spoken to the family of the deceased and the Asante Kotoko leadership to express the condolences of the Ghana Police.
The IGP also assured the family and the club of a thorough investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, a special team has been deployed from the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Accra to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in the investigation.
Ignatius Baffour Awuah, is a former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations and ex-MP for Sunyani West.
He is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder after the tragic events that unfolded on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has postponed the league matches coming up this weekend until further notice.
