Defending champions FC Samartex 1996 are winless in their last five home games in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), as they continue with the defence of the title they won last season.
Pressure is mounting on the Samreboi-based club to rise up to the standards that saw them win their maiden Ghanaian top-flight title last season.
In their last five home games in the league, the Timber Giants, lost to Young Apostles and Heart of Lions (1-0) before drawing with Nations FC, (1-1), Hearts of Oak, (0-0) and Dreams FC, (1-1), last Sunday.
This, is not a good return for the defending champions who dropped just three points at home last season on their way to winning the diadem.
This season, FC Samartex, are ninth on the GPL table with 23 points after 18 matches, 11 points behind leaders Asante Kotoko.
Going into this weekend’s round of matches, fans of the club will hope for an improvement in results as the competition gets keener.
Coach Emmanuel Ennin, has been brought in to turn things around, and, the former Berekum Chelsea gaffer, has drawn his opening two games, against Accra Hearts of Oak and Dreams FC.
FC Samartex’ next fixture is against in-form Gold Stars at the Dun’s Park, Bibiani on Sunday as the season continues with the Matchday 19 fixtures.
Coach Ennin, will be under pressure to deliver victory for the defending champions, but, it will be a difficult assignment at the home of Gold Stars.
Observers will watch with keen interest on the outcome of this fixture as FC Samartex look to turn their fortunes around.
