Ghana’s Deborah Acquah failed to make it to the final at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest on the opening day.
Acquah’s best leap of 6.50m in three attempts was not enough to claim a spot in the final, as she bowed out of the competition.
This is a poor start for Team Ghana at the championships as the nation attempts to win a first ever medal since debuting in 1983 in Helsinki, Finland.
She won a bronze medal at the last Commonwealth Games, and was looking to improve on that performance from three years ago.
Acquah, will now look to focus on the 2024 Paris Olympics in France with preparations for that set to start for her after this setback.
The automatic qualifying mark for the women’s long jump final was 6.80m, which the Ghanaian record holder could not march.
Ghana is being represented at the championships by six athletes, and with Acquah out, the rest will compete in the men’s 200m and the 4x100m events.
