In a closely contested match in week 3 of the BetPawa Premier League, Asante Kotoko found themselves in a tough battle against Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium. The Porcupine Warriors, the record Ghana Premier League holders, were held to a 1-1 draw at home, marking their second draw and one loss in three games this season.
The unexpected turn of events occurred early in the match when Karela United’s former player, Evans Adomako, surprised everyone by scoring in the 9th minute. Adomako managed to evade two defenders and slotted the ball past Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim.
Kotoko faced an uphill battle to equalize, but they managed to salvage a point in added time. Baba Yahaya came to the rescue, finding the back of the net in the dying moments of the game.
This result will undoubtedly raise questions about the future of head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, who has collected just two points from a possible 9 in the early stages of the season. Ogum had previously left the club after guiding them to the league title in the 2021/22 season but returned before the start of the 2023/24 season, alongside club legend Kwasi Appiah, as members of the Interim Management Committee.
Asante Kotoko will be looking to regain their winning form in the upcoming matches to avoid further disappointment in their pursuit of success in the BetPawa Premier League.
