Ghanaian champions, Medeama, are set to embark on a journey to the United States of America on Tuesday for their upcoming Capital City Africa Cup match against DC United. This game not only promises football action but also serves as an opportunity for Medeama to explore potential business collaborations with the renowned Major League Soccer side.
The match is scheduled to take place at the Audi Field in Washington DC, with tickets having gone on sale starting from August 1. Medeama, known as the Mauve and Yellow, recently secured their first victory of the season with a remarkable 2-1 comeback win against Bechem United in the local top-flight league.
Following their return to Tarkwa on Saturday night, the team will then journey to Accra before heading to Washington after obtaining the necessary visas for the trip.
Medeama made history by becoming the first Ghanaian club to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League in over a decade. Their remarkable journey included victories over Remo Stars of Nigeria and Guinean giants in the earlier stages of the competition.
Danita Johnson, the President of Business Operations of DC United, expressed the club’s excitement about hosting Medeama in a friendly match. She sees this as an opportunity to further promote soccer in their region and provide a diverse experience for their fanbase.
Akwasi Agyeman, the CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, also expressed delight in the upcoming game, highlighting its significance in bridging the gap between Ghana and the USA and promoting cultural unity and collaboration. This match aligns with the spirit of the “Beyond the Return” project, fostering international camaraderie.
In the CAF Champions League group stage, Medeama will compete against record holders Al-Ahly of Egypt, Young Africans of Tanzania, and CR Belouizdad of Algeria, promising an exciting journey ahead for the Ghanaian club.
