Record Ghana champions Asante Kotoko have withdrawn from the upcoming GHALCA Top Four tournament.
The annual preseason tournament, is scheduled to be played in August involving the top four finishers of last season’s Ghanaian top-flight competition.
Asante Kotoko’s withdrawal, has been confirmed by GHALCA boss Kudjo Fianoo, meaning the tourney will be without its main attraction.
The withdrawal of Kotoko, has not come unexpected as they are battling issues of leadership within their club.
The board and management of the club has been dissolved by club owner, the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, after the end of their three-year mandate.
The owner, is in the process of putting together a new direction in terms of leadership for the club, ahead of the new season.
It can be understood that Kotoko will not be ready for the preseason tournament, with the club also without a technical team following the passing of the old management.
GHALCA, will most certainly be affected by the withdrawal of Kotoko from the Top Four tournament, and will have to find a fourth team to replace the main attraction.
Medeama SC, Aduana FC and Bechem United, remain in the running for the preseason tournament which has been programmed to be played at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.
