Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Medeama’s Nurudeen Abdulai have been handed unexpected last-minute call-ups to represent Ghana in the 2026 World Cup qualification matches.
The sudden inclusion of Issahaku and Abdulai comes in light of the absence of Kamaldeen Sulemana and Abdul Mumin, who were initially part of Chris Hughton’s 25-man squad but could not join the camp for undisclosed reasons, as per the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Nurudeen Abdulai, hailing from Medeama, will step in for Abdul Mumin, the defender from Rayo Vallecano, while Leicester City’s Fatawu Issahaku is set to replace Kamaldeen Sulemana, the attacker representing Southampton.
Both players have swiftly arrived in Accra to join the national team’s camp, which commenced preparations on Monday, November 13, 2023, gearing up for the crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Comoros and Madagascar.
The Black Stars’ campaign kicks off with a match against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday, November 17, followed by an away game against Comoros at the Stade de Moroni on November 21. The late additions of Issahaku and Abdulai bring fresh perspectives and talents to the Ghanaian squad, bolstering their chances in these vital qualifying fixtures.
