Bibiani Goldstars FC faced a disappointing turn of events in the Ghana Premier League, enduring their initial home defeat against newly-promoted Nations FC on a Sunday afternoon clash. The Miners’ woes extended as their winless streak stretched to seven matches, succumbing to a narrow 1-0 loss against Nations FC at Bibiani’s Dun’s Park.
Nations FC, buoyed by midfielder Barimah Baah’s early goal, clinched their maiden away triumph since ascending to the top flight. Goldstars’ head coach, Michael Osei, restructured his squad, introducing alterations to the starting lineup following their previous 3-0 loss to Aduana Stars.
Richmond Opoku Manu replaced skipper Yakubu Haqq, while Mawuli Wayo, Bernard Asare, and George Owusu earned their first starts. Conversely, Nations FC’s coach, Kassim Mingle Ocansey, made tactical changes from their prior victory over Heart of Lions, with Sadiq Alhassan, Amidou Diarra, and Ishmael Antwi stepping into the starting lineup.
Baah’s lone strike in the 9th minute, exploiting a defensive lapse, sealed the fate of the encounter, marking Nations FC’s inaugural away goal in the league. Despite Goldstars’ efforts to stage a comeback in the second half, they found no breakthrough against the resolute Nations defense, ultimately sending the latter back to Kumasi with jubilant spirits.
Following Sunday’s defeat, Michael Osei’s team plummeted into the relegation zone, while the league newcomers, Nations FC, ascended to the 9th spot in the league standings.
