The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), has cancelled this year’s Top Four preseason tournament.
The mother association of football clubs in Ghana, said in a statement that, the cancellation is due to issues beyond their control.
The tournament, was scheduled to be played between August 6-13, in Kumasi, as a prelude to the start of the 2023-24 Ghana football season.
A statement by the organizers read;
“We regret to announce the cancellation of this year’s @ghalca top 4 tournament due to circumstances beyond our control.”
It continued, “The decision has been communicated to the participating clubs and that any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”
This annual preseason tournament, is organized by GHALCA for clubs to prepare for the new season.
Clubs taking part in continental competitions, also use this tourney to prepare for their campaign in Africa.
Winners of last season’s Ghanaian top-flight title Medeama SC, were due to compete in this tourney, but with this new change, they will have to look for other alternatives to prepare for their CAF Champions League campaign.
The Yellow and Mauves, have been paired with Nigerian side Remo Stars in the first qualifying round of the CAF Champions League competition.
