In a pivotal career move, former Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah has embraced a new challenge as the president of FC Petrocub in Moldova. This transition comes on the heels of a formalized partnership, with Amponsah succeeding Mikhail Usatîi in the prestigious role.
Founded in 1994 and recognized as The White-Blacks or The Hincesti Lions, Petrocub competes fiercely in the Moldovan Super Liga, hosting home matches at the Municipal Stadium in Hincesti. In the previous season, they clinched a commendable second place in the eight-club league, with Marius Iosipoi securing the title of the third-highest goalscorer.
Amponsah’s impact is already palpable, evidenced by former Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora’s strategic move to Petrocub from Sheriff Tiraspol, signaling a noteworthy influence on player transfers.
Presently, Petrocub commands the second position in the Moldovan league standings with 28 points, trailing six points behind league leaders Sheriff. Amponsah’s entry into Moldovan football promises to be a captivating chapter, and his seasoned expertise is expected to chart an ambitious course for FC Petrocub’s future.
