Koogo Atia won the 2023 Accra Inter-City (Homowo) men marathon on Friday in the Ghanaian capital.
He finished the race with a time of 1:07.39sec to win the second edition of the marathon held as part of the Ga Homowo festival celebrations.
The race started at the Accra Sports Stadium and ended at the Manste Agbonaa, James Town with hundreds of athletes participating in all categories.
Atia said it was not his best time, but feels happy to be a winner, and feels cool to outrun the reigning champion.
Private Lariba Zakatt of the Ghana Armed Forces won the female category of the 21km race as she continues with her preparations for the 13th African Games next year in Accra.
The two winners, received a cash price of GH¢10,000, gold medals and products of sponsors of the event for their troubles.
Juvenile boxer, Prince ‘The Buzz’ Larbie, won in his category, going home with a gold medal.
The organizers of the event, Medivents Consult, hopes to make it an even bigger event next year.
