Nsoatreman FC started their maiden CAF Confederation Cup journey in style, securing a comprehensive 3-0 victory against TP Elect Sport of Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Guided by newly appointed coach Yaw Preko, the Ghanaian debutants showcased their dominance, particularly in the latter stages of the first half. The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Abdul Rahman calmly slotted home the opening goal. Just two minutes later, former Ghana U20 winger Kwabena Adu Meider doubled the lead with a fine finish. Rahman added his second of the day in the 36th minute, latching onto a low cross from Shaibu Iddrisu.
TP Elect Sport’s troubles deepened when their goalkeeper, Mahamat Bechir, was sent off in the 54th minute for handling the ball outside the box. Despite the numerical advantage, Nsoatreman couldn’t find a fourth goal, with Stephen Diyou hitting the post in the 70th minute.
Goalkeeper Daniel Afazdwu’s three crucial saves preserved a clean sheet in what was a historic first-ever continental appearance for Nsoatreman FC.
The second leg is set for August 24, 2024, in N’Djamena, where Nsoatreman will aim to secure their place in the next round.
