The Forestry Commission of Ghana has donated an amount of GH¢100,000 to FC Samartex 1996, the Ghana Premier League (GPL), champions.
The donation, is aimed at bolstering the club’s participation in their CAF Champions League campaign.
The Timber Giants, are through to the final qualifying round for a place in the group phase of the competition.
Last season, FC Samartex defied all odds to win the GPL title in only their second season in the Ghanaian top-flight.
The donation ceremony was held at the head office of the Forestry Commission, and, was attended by club officials and some of the players as they presented the league trophy to the Commission.
The delegation also included prominent figures from FC Samartex like Club President, Dr. Richard Kwaku Duah Nsenkyire, General Manager Edmund Ackah, Team Captain Emmanuel Adu Siaw, and forwards Emmanuel Owusu Boakye and Seidu Abubakar.
Paramount Chief of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area and Forestry Commission Board Chairman, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II applauded the team for their historic accomplishment just two seasons in the Ghana Premier League.
“Let me use this opportunity to once again congratulate you for your historic success, just two seasons in the elite league. The Cup has given me some bragging rights. When I meet my colleague paramount chiefs, they call me the champion,” he said, wishing them well for them future.
Mr Ackah, expressed appreciation for the financial support received from the Forestry Commission, promising that it would be put to good use as they prosecute their continental campaign.
FC Samartex on Saturday, will face FA Cup winners Nsoatreman FC in a Champion of Champions clash at Tarkwa to open the gate for the 2024/25 GPL season.
The Timber Giants will face Raja Club Athletic of Morocco in a two-legged affair for a place in the group phase of the competition .
The Ghanaians will host the first leg in Accra on September 15 before heading to Morocco for the return fixture a week later.
