Director of sports of Asanteman fm /TV who double as the of statical unit metro mass Kumasi and deputy youth organizer for NPP manhyia North constituency is calling on the supporters of Accra hearts of oak and Asante kotoko as well as management of these club to push for more Tv rights and marketing and sponsorship money.
The Ghana football association has on Tuesday unveiled the price money for the 2023/24 Betpawa Ghana premier league at Koforidua in the eastern region. The unveiling of the new season together with how money will be allocated to each club, sports fans and journalists have shared their opinion on the subject matter. One comment that caught our attention was that of the director of sports for Asanteman fm, Kennedy Ohene Mintah otherwise known as Nana Ken. Sharing his opinion, he expressed his shock and worry as to why the two most glamorous clubs ; Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak are being given the same amount as the other clubs with regards to Marketing and TV rights. He further elaborated that, these two clubs have the numbers that gives startimes, the official media sponsor the returns they projects.
“ I have a problem with how tv rights and marketing are being shared. Kotoko and hearts have always given startimes a good return when their games are being broadcasted live. I don’t know why these two clubs have always remained quiet for tv rights to be shared equally. In Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona together have more of the tv rights money. Why can’t Kotoko and hearts do same? These two clubs should come together and present their terms to the FA and demand for a bigger share.” He urged
Stressing more on Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the former Zylofon fm sports host urged Kotoko fans to charge on their management to ask for more of the tv rights deal since they’re bigger than the other clubs and have the numbers. It is no strange news that GFA sees all clubs at the same level when it comes to financial allocations but puts them in high esteem during their negotiations for local football sponsorships.
It is no denying fact that Asante Kotoko and Hearts of oak have held the flag of our local football for decades. These two clubs, possess commanding numbers that supersedes all the other clubs in the league, it is the reason why their matches or matches involving them are telecasted more every season and the numbers their games bring is evident of what they always claim to be.
Debates about how sponsorship and tv rights are shared have been a unending conversation for stakeholders of the beautiful games but nothing shows that the GFA is ready to take into consideration of the fact that the other clubs enjoy huge sums at the expense of these 2 clubs on which the FA used as a trump-card to negotiate for deals. Though the FA should be apportioned more the blame, the 2 clubs can’t be left out of this. The big question is, Have they done enough in their quest to demanding a befitting amount for themselves?
