President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah has commended Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif and Chief Director at the Ministry Alhaji Hafiz Adam for the special attention they have paid to the national boxing team, the Black Bombers as they prepare for the qualifiers to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
He thanked the Sports Ministry for accepting to cater for the air fares and per diem of the boxers as they prepare to compete at the Olympic qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal next month.
Mr Nunoo Mensah said these on Thursday, when the GOC, paid a working visit to the Black Bombers at their training camp at the Trust Sports Emporium in Accra.
The visit was to get insight into how the team is preparing for the upcoming event in Senegal, and the prospects of Ghana qualifying boxers to the Olympics in Paris, France next year.
Mr Nunoo Mensah, expressed his hope and trust that the Black Bombers will do well at the 2023 African qualifiers, and advised the boxers to be disciplined on the task ahead as they head to Senegal to defend the flag of Ghana as ambassadors.
Boxing, he added, has been adopted as a project by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and that the Ministry will support the boxers in their preparations to bring laurels to Ghana going forward.
He applauded the Youth and Sports Ministry for this initiative, and pleaded that they carry it even further as the GOC works to support athletes representing Ghana in international sporting events.
The GOC, has given the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), $10,000 for their preparation, registration and representation in Dakar, as they go in defence of the national flag, with the GOC President, charging the boxers to strive hard to secure qualification to the Olympics at the Senegal meet and build it up from there.
