King Faisal defender David Oppong Afrane has decided to escalate his situation with his club to the Ghana Football Association’s Player Status Committee after a potential move to Hearts of Oak fell through.
The Ghanaian transfer window officially closed on Friday, September 8, 2023, after an extension granted by the Ghana Football Association. During this window, Hearts of Oak expressed strong interest in signing the highly-rated defender and were looking to secure his signature before the deadline.
Unfortunately, the transfer did not materialize due to King Faisal’s decision to reopen negotiations and demand a higher fee for Afrane, despite already agreeing on a fee that exceeded his release clause. It has been reported that King Faisal’s owner, Alhaji Grunzah, was aware of rival interest from Asante Kotoko and attempted to leverage this to increase Afrane’s transfer fee.
With the closure of the transfer window, Afrane has taken matters into his own hands and lodged a complaint with the GFA Player Status Committee, hoping for a favorable resolution. It appears that he is seeking special dispensation for his case.
