In the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana finds itself in Pot 2 for the draw, which could potentially lead to challenging group stage matchups. The Black Stars may face formidable opponents such as reigning champions Senegal, host nation Ivory Coast, as well as Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Algeria, all of whom are placed in Pot 1.
The tournament will feature 24 teams, each placed in one of four pots comprising six teams. The final draw is set to take place on October 12th, where the teams will be placed into six groups of four (Groups A to F), with each group containing one team from each pot.
Ghana’s Pot 2 companions include archrivals Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, and DR Congo. This means that there won’t be an opportunity for the Super Eagles to seek revenge against their West African counterparts during the group stage.
Meanwhile, Pot 3 consists of South Africa, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Zambia, Guinea, and Mauritania, while Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Namibia, Gambia, Angola, and Tanzania make up Pot 4.
Having had a disappointing performance in the previous edition, where they failed to progress from the group stage after a loss to Comoros in the final group game, Ghana will be eager for a favorable draw. The Black Stars aim to bounce back and make amends in their quest for success in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
