Accra Lions, a prominent Ghana Premier League side, has sent their U18 team on an exciting journey to Belgrade, Serbia, where they will partake in international friendlies against Serbian clubs. This venture is part of the club’s efforts to provide valuable international exposure and experience to their young talents.
The Accra Lions U18 team is set to compete against the U18 teams of Red Star Belgrade and Cukaricki during their European tour. The squad departed from Accra on Friday, heading for Belgrade, where they are expected to arrive later in the day. Arrangements for the two friendly matches, scheduled for the following week, are already in place.
As part of their preparations, the young players will engage in several training sessions, fine-tuning their skills and teamwork ahead of the matches. Notably, winger Daniel Awuni, who is also a part of the first team, has joined the U18 squad. His experience is expected to be an asset to the young talents.
Accra Lions has rapidly grown into one of the most promising clubs in Ghana and currently leads the Premier League. Their commitment to excellence was further solidified through a partnership with former Germany international and World Cup winner, Lothar Mathaus, last season, as they strive to establish themselves as one of the top clubs in the country.
The U18 team plays a crucial role as a feeder side for the first team, nurturing young talents and providing them with opportunities to showcase their potential on an international stage. This European tour to Belgrade represents an exciting chapter in the development of these budding football stars from Accra Lions.
