In an electrifying matchday three fixture at the Nsenkyire Stadium in Samreboi, FC Samartex 1996 made a triumphant return to the winner’s circle in the Ghana Premier League, stunning Bechem United with an emphatic 4-1 victory.
The Timber Boys, determined to bounce back from a previous defeat to Nations FC, displayed their resilience and character with an outstanding comeback performance.
Samartex’s head coach, Nurudeen Amadu, introduced key changes to the squad, with Ebenezer Acquah taking the place of James Sewornu and Gabriel Bonnah returning to the starting lineup. On the other side, Bechem United’s manager, Bismark Kobi-Mensah, made only one change, bringing in club legend Augustine Okrah, who made his first start of the season after returning from his stint in Tanzania with Simba SC.
Augustine Okrah, showing his class, gave the Hunters the lead in the 18th minute with a brilliant solo effort, surprising everyone. However, Samartex responded swiftly, as Evans Osei-Wusu converted a penalty kick after Bechem’s goalkeeper, Haruna Dari Aziz, fouled Bonnah inside the box.
Bechem United’s woes continued as they played the entire second half with ten men, following midfielder Emmanuel Owusu’s dismissal on the stroke of halftime after receiving a second yellow card.
Samartex took full advantage of the situation, with midfielder Emmanuel Keyekeh’s individual effort breaking the deadlock in the 65th minute. The goals kept coming for the Timber Boys, with Baba Hamadu Musa scoring his first goal for the club from the penalty spot after Osei-Wusu was fouled in the box.
Musa wasn’t done yet, adding another goal to complete the resounding victory for FC Samartex 1996. Their dominant performance left Bechem United in shock as the Timber Boys celebrated a well-deserved win in front of their home crowd.
