The recently formed Interim Management Committee of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), has called on the National Sports Authority (NSA) to conduct proper investigation into the affairs of the executive led by Mawuko Afadzinu whose mandate has expired.
It says, the IMC respects the NSA’s role in ensuring the integrity of sports in Ghana and believes that a thorough examination of the circumstances leading to the formation of the IMC, will reveal the adherence to established constitutional procedures.
On September, 2023 at an emergency general meeting in Kumasi, members of the GTTA, appointed a three-member IMC to run the body following the following the expiration of the mandate of the Mr Afadzinu executive on May 4, 2023.
This IMC, is to oversee the GTTA affairs until new elections to elect new national officers are held in November.
However, the formation of this IMC has been rejected by the NSA.
And in a response to this directive, the IMC says, the NSA has no mandate to accept or reject the properly constituted IMC, highlighting that the meeting to appoint them, had in attendance 15 out of the 19 GTTA members attending, and that it was convened in strict accordance with Section 1.9.1.2 of the Ghana Table Tennis Association constitution.
The IMC it said, has been tasked to managing the day-to-day activities of the GTTA until the forthcoming elections; collaborate with the NSA to ensure a seamless administrative transition from the outgoing to the incoming executives.
It added: “It’s important to emphasize that the committee’s members were selected meticulously based on their expertise and experience in effectively managing similar transitional scenarios and providing strong leadership during times of change.”
“The IMC remains open to constructive dialogue and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to engage in discussions to address any specific concerns or issues that may have contributed to the NSA’s decision not to recognize the IMC.
Our commitment remains unwavering, and our primary objective is to ensure the continued growth and success of Ghana Table Tennis. We believe that by working together and maintaining open lines of communication, we can achieve our shared goals for the sport.”
In the spirit of promoting fairness and unity, we look forward to a constructive dialogue and a harmonious resolution that will support the growth of table tennis in our nation.”
