Executive Secretary for Goldfields Ghana Foundation Abdul Razak Yakubu, has revealed that the much awaited TNA Stadium at Tarkwa, will not be ready this year as expected.
The Stadium which serves as the home grounds for reigning betpawa Premier League champions Medeama SC, was anticipated to be ready by the end of 2023, but, has been delayed due to some undisclosed technical reasons.
In an interview with James Kojo Bawa on Tarkwa-based radio station Space FM on Tuesday, Mr Yakubu expressed his sadness for the delay of the edifice but believes it is for a purpose.
“It worries me and I feel sad we couldn’t complete the edifice as promised or expected. However, conversations with some key stakeholders behind the scenes for the past few weeks, shows that the edifice will not be ready this year as expected, he said.
Mr Yakubu added: “All the key stakeholders including the contractor anticipate March next year for the completion of the project so, I was therefore surprised when I heard a CAF inspection team will be inspecting the Stadium ahead of the CAF Champions League group stages.”
He further stated that, there hasn’t been any trial on the facility therefore he feels the community and Medeama SC are rushing the contractor as well as Goldfields for the completion of the project.
“You can’t have such big games at this facility without running a trial to know the short comings of it, you have not tried the safety of the fans before and after the games. If all the stimulation and drills have not taking place, we can not guarantee the facility can hold such a big competition.”
Medeama SC were anticipating to hold their first historic CAF Champions League group stages matches on home soil at the Tarkwa TNA Stadium.
However, Mr.Yakubu, appealed to fans and the community as a whole to exercise patience for the full completion of the stadium for their safety.
