In a fiery and closely contested match at the Baba Yara Stadium, Bechem United’s head coach, Bismark Kobby-Mensah, has voiced his frustration over the disallowed goal that could have been the match-winner in their 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
The heart of the matter was a disallowed goal, which Kobby-Mensah firmly believed his team deserved. In the midst of the intensity and drama, Bechem United’s star player, Augustine Okrah, executed a magnificent run and a volley that found the back of the net. However, referee Rustum Gameli Senorgbe made the controversial decision to disallow the goal following a consultation with assistant referee Mikaal-il Fauzan.
The decision rested on the belief that Okrah had handled the ball before his strike, negating what could have been a match-winning goal.
Coach Kobby-Mensah did not mince his words in expressing his frustration. He felt that his team had been unjustly robbed of a crucial three points, emphasizing the critical error made by the assistant referee.
“I am a bit disappointed because we have been denied a precious three points. I am not here to talk about the referee, but the assistant referee was bad. We were denied a precious goal. It was a big error from the assistant. We have been denied three points,” he asserted.
Despite the contentious decision, Peter Acquah managed to score his debut goal for the Porcupine Warriors, Asante Kotoko, before the evergreen Augustine Okrah equalized for the visitors.
Following the drawn match, Asante Kotoko remains in 7th place on the league table with 10 points, while Bechem United currently sits in the 12th spot with eight points. The match’s drama and controversy serve as a reminder of the intense competition in the Ghana Premier League, keeping fans engaged and eager for more exciting encounters.
