Lagos-based golfer Sunday Olapade emerged triumphant at the 2023 Gold Fields PGA Championship, held at Damang, Ghana. In a thrilling playoff finale on Saturday, Olapade showcased his skill and determination, ultimately defeating Ghana’s Kojo Barnni to claim the prestigious championship title.
The final day of the tournament witnessed a fierce competition among seasoned golfers. Olapade’s exceptional performance led him to outshine the defending champion and 2017/2018 winner, Kojo Barnni. His outstanding victory not only earned him the coveted championship trophy but also a substantial cash prize of 80,000 Ghanaian cedis, making his win all the more rewarding.
Among the top contenders, Vincent Torgah, a former champion in 2014, 2016, and 2021, secured the third position, while Augustine Manasseh showcased a commendable performance, securing the fourth spot.
Additionally, in the seniors’ category, Emos Korblah clinched the top position, displaying exceptional prowess in the tournament. On the women’s front, Constance Awuni exhibited remarkable skills, triumphing in the ladies’ division, setting her sights on a future as a professional player.
