Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil has completed a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Los Angeles Galaxy. The 26-year-old joins the MLS giants from Belgian outfit KRC Genk on a four-year deal, and will be classified as a Designated Player.
Paintsil will be part of the LA Galaxy squad for the 2024 season after obtaining his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa. Prior to his move to North America, the former Tema Youth attacker enjoyed a successful spell in Europe, scoring 65 goals and providing 35 assists in over 200 games.
LA Galaxy General Manager Will Kuntz expressed his excitement about the acquisition, highlighting Paintsil’s experience and potential impact on the team: “Joseph has been a key member of one of the best clubs in Belgium’s top flight and one of Africa’s most prominent national teams over the past few years and we are thrilled to announce that he is joining the LA Galaxy.”
Head coach Greg Vanney also spoke highly of Paintsil’s abilities, stating, “Joseph is a dynamic winger with and without the ball who possesses the capacity to change games instantly. We look forward to integrating him into our group quickly.”
The acquisition of Paintsil signifies LA Galaxy’s ambition to compete for the 2024 MLS title, as they aim to bolster their attacking options and add depth to their squad.
