Ghana coach Otto Addo said the door is not closed on Andre Ayew after the Black Stars captain was left out of the squad to play Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR), in crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.
Ayew, was not included in the team for the games in Bamako on June 6 against the Malians and the Group I tie in Kumasi against the CAR.
This, has raised eye brows among Ghanaians that the man who led Ghana to win the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup has played his last game for the Black Stars.
However, Otto Addo has dispelled those assertions, insisting that the door has not been closed on a return to the national team for the Le Havre player.
“I had extensive discussions with Andre Ayew on why he is not part of this squad”, Otto Addo told the Ghanaian media when announcing his team for the upcoming games on Wednesday.
He added: “You can never say never, and the door is not closed on anyone into the national football team of Ghana.”
Otto Addo praised the attitude of Andre Ayew in understanding this situation, and wished him well going forward as he takes his holiday ahead of the next football season in France.
