Black Stars coach Otto Addo has spoken highly of Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare after including him in his squad to play Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR), in crucial 2026 FIFA world Cup qualifiers next month.
The Kotoko player, was the only locally based star included in the 27-man group for the games in Bamako on June 6 against the Malians with Ghana set to host the CAR in Kumasi four days later.
And, Otto Addo said, Asare has earned his spot in the team after coming through some tough competition on the local scene and among other goalkeepers playing outside Ghana.
“Asare, bounds well with the rest of the squad, and this was evident during his last call up for the friendly games against Nigeria and Uganda during the last international break,” Otto Addo said.
This was when he announced the squad on Wednesday in Accra to prepare for the upcoming games as Ghana seeks to make it to a second straight Mundial after Qatar 2022.
Asare, will look to repose the trust in him by Coach Otto Addo as he competes with two other goalkeepers for the number one position ahead of these two games.
Group I of the African qualifiers, houses Ghana, Mali, the CAR and the Comoros Islands with only one nation guaranteed qualification to the Mundial at the end of these qualifiers.
