FC Samartex 1996 took a significant step towards the next round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers with a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Cameroonian champions Victoria United at the Japoma Stadium in Douala.
The decisive moment came in the second half when Emmanuel Mamah powered home a header from a well-delivered corner kick, giving the Ghanaian side a crucial edge ahead of the return leg.
Head coach Nurudeen Amadu deployed a strong lineup featuring Kofi Baah in goal and captain Ebenezer Acquah leading the side. Despite Victoria United’s early dominance, they struggled to break down a resolute Samartex defense.
As the match progressed, Samartex gained control and began to dictate play, although they couldn’t capitalize on their chances in the first half. After the break, they intensified their attacks, and Mamah’s goal finally broke the deadlock.
In the tense closing stages, both teams battled hard, but Samartex stood firm to maintain their lead and secure the win.
Samartex will aim to complete the job in the return leg on August 25 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
