Otto Addo: ‘Door Always Open’ for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah to Join Black Stars
Ghana coach Otto Addo has reiterated that the “door is always open” for English-born forwards Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah to join the Black Stars.
Despite having made a few appearances for England’s senior team, both Hudson-Odoi and Nketiah remain eligible to represent Ghana at the international level. Hudson-Odoi has not played for England in over three years, while Nketiah last featured in international friendlies last year but was left out of the squad for the European Championship.
In a recent press conference where he announced his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger, Addo expressed his continued interest in the players. “The first time I came here as coach for the game against Nigeria, I was after them, but they said they needed time, and they are still not here,” Addo stated. “To be honest, players who want to join the national team should come quite early to get familiar with me, with the team, the players, and Ghana.”
Addo emphasized that he has maintained communication with both players, adding, “Before that, I have their numbers, I call, I texted them, but they are always welcomed.”
The Black Stars are set to host Angola on September 5 before facing Niger four days later as they kick off their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign.
