GFA Penalizes Kotoko for Fielding Unqualified Player: Deducts Six Points
The Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee has delivered a significant blow to Nzema Kotoko, imposing a fine and deducting six points from the team’s tally. This decision comes after Nzema Kotoko was found guilty of fielding an unqualified player during a match against King Faisal.
The player in question, Augustine Ofori, had an expired registration when Nzema Kotoko faced off against King Faisal on matchday 15 of the Division One league at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli Arena. As a result, the Disciplinary Committee ruled that Nzema Kotoko should be declared losers of the game, consequently losing three points, while King Faisal is credited with three points and three goals.
King Faisal’s protest regarding the eligibility of Augustine Ofori prompted the investigation, which led to the findings that the player’s registration had indeed expired.
In accordance with the GFA Division One League Regulations, Nzema Kotoko’s actions were deemed punishable by forfeiture of the match. This ruling serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to league regulations and ensuring the eligibility of players before each match.
